Are Structured Settlements a Good Investment?

There are several people interested in structured settlements. First, you have the original annuitant and insurance company who agree that a structured settlement will be how a certain case is settled. Next, you have structured settlement purchasing companies who can assist annuitants who wish to sell their structured settlement if their situation changes. Last, you have investors or private individuals who may wish to purchase an annuitant?s structured settlement in exchange for a lump sum. These investors are individuals who are seeking a high return and a low risk, as most investors.
It will rarely be said that a structured settlement is a bad investment. In fact, as long as a few guidelines and protective procedures and reviews are in place, a structured settlement is one of the best investments available right now. Structured settlements have a return anywhere from 5 ? 7%, they are very low risk and they typically require little to no effort by the actual investor. Typically, an investor works with a financial advisor group who recommends the purchase of an annuity depending on the investor?s needs. For example, the investor may want to purchase an annuity for their children?s college fund or they may need something for retirement. Whatever the reason, there is usually an annuity stream or structured settlement stream that can meet the investor?s needs. After an annuity is recommended, the financial advising group will search for and locate the appropriate annuity. The safest annuity is one coming from a highly rated insurance company with an average weighted life of about 5 ? 8 years. Once this is located, the investor will pay for the funds and the annuity will then be in the investor?s name. When the structured settlement payments become due, they will go directly to the investor rather than the annuitant.
