Robin Williams may return to TV in David E. Kelley series

OLYMPIA, Washington (Reuters) - Washington state regulators have warned a Roman Catholic bishop that his diocese risks running afoul of state campaign finance laws if he follows through with a planned fund-raising effort opposing same-sex marriage on the November ballot. State law prohibits organizations, including churches, from raising money from individuals to give to political campaigns, said Lori Anderson, a spokeswoman for the state's Public Disclosure Commission. "It's not because it's a church. It's because it's not a stand-alone individual," Anderson said on Thursday. ...

Samsung Galaxy Note II gets early benchmark treatment at IFA

Here at IFA, the Galaxy Note II's glossy plastic build is practically fading under the ambush of cameras snapping away at Samsung's booth, but clearly this phone is more than just a (super sized) pretty face, and it's time to take a look at what's under the hood. As mentioned in our hands-on, Samsung upgraded the original Note's dual-core 1.4GHz chipset to a quad-core 1.6GHz Exynos processor. We put the device to the test today to see how those amped-up insides reflect in the Note II's benchmark scores. As you'll see below, Sammy's latest handset fares significantly better than the original Note and the Galaxy S III.

Oh, what a difference a processor makes. Clearly the step up to a quad-core CPU is to thank for the large performance delta between the Note II and the last-gen Note, though the international version of the Galaxy S III, with a quad-core 1.4Ghz Exynos processor, also falls behind in Quadrant and other tests. The Note II also trumped its Samsung siblings on the browser-focused Vellamo benchmark, which hints at snappier performance on this phone. The phone's graphics chops look pretty good, too, if the GL Benchmark score is any indication. Our testing got cut short before we could run SunSpider, but we'll add that figure shortly.

Update: We've added SunSpider as well -- the device clocked in at 1,330ms, which is a hair faster than the Galaxy S III.

The Connection Between Creative Artists and Some Emotional ...

It?s common to see innovative artists who also suffer from mental illness. The bond between mental condition and creativity is more successful and published. We have seen so many films that feature brilliant geniuses suffering from their particular challenges in the mental world, and many of these lead to collapse and destruction over time. When it comes to the world of art, we also have an idea of the creative artist as a tortured heart, ensconced all day in a garret creating brilliant function to stave off the inevitable breakdown. We hear about the writer who creates an in a haze, fifty pages each day. Then, he?ll go years with no ability to follow-up on his success due to some kind of a block or illness, only to create another beautiful work once again. Are these reports isolated instances which were promoted until they loom large, rendering it seem typical, or is there really an actual and proven link between chaos and creativity?Practicing psychiatrists and historians can not seem to agree. There are reports that show a connection, or a statistically significant url, between creativity and mental illness. This might appear odd initially since you?ve got to wonder why both should really be linked. After all, there are plenty of amazing, creative thoughts that are mentally steady all exactly the same, are not there? One such research, done by the Stanford University School of Medicine, showed that children who?d higher risk for development of bipolar disorder (from having ADHD or parents with the disorder) had notably higher scores on measures of artistic creativity than did children who weren?t at increased risk. This interesting finding has medical professionals discovering further.Another research, done jointly by the University of Harvard and Toronto, found that very creative individuals are less able to disregard external stimuli. They?re more distractible, and thus work most readily useful in quiet and isolated conditions. Here is just a fact: we know of a huge selection of famous, perhaps world-renowned, imaginative people who have various mental disorders such as for example bipolar disorder or depression. Some musicians, writers, and important musicians are in this amount, individuals who are family names because of their art.We won?t resolve the debate within the link between madness and imagination anytime soon. We shall probably continue steadily to examine this matter for many years ahead. Until experts produce the irrefutable proof to create the causal link, or disprove it whole, the most popular picture of the tortured artist can continue to intrigue all of us.

Walls of lunar crater may hold patchy ice

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2012) ? Small patches of ice could make up at most 5 to 10% of material in walls of Shackleton crater. Scientists using the Mini-RF radar on NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) have estimated the maximum amount of ice likely to be found inside a permanently shadowed lunar crater located near the moon's south pole. As much as 5 to 10 percent of material, by weight, could be patchy ice, according to the team of researchers led by Bradley Thomson at Boston University's Center for Remote Sensing.

"These terrific results from the Mini-RF team contribute to the evolving story of water on the moon," says LRO's deputy project scientist, John Keller of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. "Several of the instruments on LRO have made unique contributions to this story, but only the radar penetrates beneath the surface to look for signatures of blocky ice deposits."

These are the first orbital radar measurements of Shackleton crater, a high-priority target for future exploration. The observations indicate an enhanced radar polarization signature, which is consistent with the presence of small amounts of ice in the rough inner wall slopes of the crater. Thomson and his colleagues reported the findings in a paper recently published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

"The interior of this crater lies in permanent shadow and is a 'cold trap' -- a place cold enough to permit ice to accumulate," says Mini-RF's principal investigator, Ben Bussey of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md. "The radar results are consistent with the interior of Shackleton containing a few percent ice mixed into the dry lunar soil."

These findings support the long-recognized possibility that areas of permanent shadow inside polar impact craters are sites of the potential accumulation of water. Numerous lines of evidence from recent spacecraft observations have revised the view that the lunar surface is a completely dry, inhospitable landscape. Thin films of water and hydroxyl have been detected across the lunar surface using several space-borne near-infrared spectrometers. Additionally, orbital neutron measurements indicate elevated levels of near?surface hydrogen in the polar regions; if in the form of water, this hydrogen would represent an average ice concentration of about 1.5% by weight in the polar regions.

The Shackleton findings are also consistent with those of the recent LCROSS spacecraft's controlled collision with a nearby permanently shadowed polar region near the lunar south pole, which revealed evidence for water in the plume kicked up by its impact. A radar instrument flown on India's Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft in 2009 found evidence for ice deposits in craters at the lunar north pole. Measurements of the albedo (surface reflectance) inside Shackleton crater using LRO's laser altimeter and far?ultraviolet detector are also consistent with the presence of a small amount of ice.

"Inside the crater, we don't see evidence for glaciers like on Earth," says Thomson. "Glacial ice has a whopping radar signal, and these measurements reveal a much weaker signal consistent with rugged terrain and limited ice."

The radar measurements of Shackleton crater were made during three separate observations between December 2009 and June 2010. Radar illuminates shadowed regions and can detect deposits of water or ice, which have a distinctive radar polarization signature compared to the surrounding material. In addition, radar penetrates the terrain to depths of a meter or two and can measure water or ice buried beneath the surface. Radar measurements of Shackleton crater place an upper bound on the ice content of the uppermost meter of loose material of the crater's walls at between 5 and 10% ice by weight.

"We are following up these tantalizing results with additional observations," says Bussey. "Mini-RF is currently acquiring new bistatic radar images of the moon using a signal transmitted by the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico. These bistatic images will help us distinguish between surface roughness and ice, providing further unique insights into the locations of volatile deposits."

This book cover image released by Dutton shows "No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama Bin Laden," by Mark Owen with Kevin Maurer. A first-hand account of the Navy SEAL mission that killed Osama bin Laden is coming out Sept. 11. Dutton announced Wednesday that Mark Owen?s ?No Easy Day? will ?set the record straight? on the raid in Pakistan in May 2011. ?Mark Owen? is a pseudonym for the combat veteran who was one of the first fighters to enter bin Laden?s third floor hideout and also witnessed his death, according to Dutton, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA). (AP Photo/Dutton)

(AP) ? A firsthand account of the Navy SEAL raid that killed Osama bin Laden contradicts previous accounts by administration officials, raising questions as to whether the terror mastermind presented a clear threat when SEALs first fired upon him.

Bin Laden apparently was shot in the head when he looked out of his bedroom door into the top-floor hallway of his compound as SEALs rushed up a narrow stairwell in his direction, according to former Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette, writing under the pseudonym Mark Owen in "No Easy Day." The book is to be published next week by Penguin Group (USA)'s Dutton imprint.

Bissonnette says he was directly behind a point man going up the stairs in the pitch black hallway. Near the top, he said, he heard two shots, but the book doesn't make it clear who fired them. He wrote that the point man had seen a man peeking out of a door on the right side of the hallway.

The author writes that the man ducked back into his bedroom and the SEALs followed, only to find the man crumpled on the floor in a pool of blood with a hole visible on the right side of his head and two women wailing over his body.

Bissonnette says the point man pulled the two women out of the way and shoved them into a corner. He and the other SEALs trained their guns' laser sights on bin Laden's still-twitching body, shooting him several times until he lay motionless. Only when they wiped the blood off his face, were they certain it was bin Laden.

The SEALs later found two weapons stored by the doorway, untouched, the author said.

Administration officials briefing reporters in the days after the May 2011 raid in Pakistan said the SEALs shot bin Laden only after he ducked back into the bedroom because they assumed he might be reaching for a weapon.

National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor would not comment on the apparent contradiction late Tuesday. But he said in an email Wednesday, "As President Obama said on the night that justice was brought to Osama bin Laden, 'We give thanks for the men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country.'"

"No Easy Day" was due out Sept. 11, but Dutton announced the book would be available a week early, Sept. 4, because of a surge of orders due to advance publicity that drove the book to the top of the Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com best-seller lists.

The Associated Press purchased a copy of the book Tuesday.

The account is sure to renew questions about whether the raid was intended to capture or simply to kill bin Laden. Bissonnette writes that during a pre-raid briefing, an administration lawyer told them that they were not on an assassination mission. According to Bissonnette, the lawyer said that if bin Laden was "naked with his hands up," they should not engage him. If bin Laden did not pose a threat, they should detain him.

A former deputy judge advocate general for the Air Force said the shooting was understandable according to the orders the SEALS had.

"It wasn't unreasonable for the SEALs to shoot the individual who stuck his head out," said the former JAG, ret. Maj. Gen. Charlie Dunlap, who now teaches at Duke University law school.

"In a confined space like that where it is clear that there are hostiles, the SEALs need to take reasonable steps to ensure their safety and accomplish the mission," Dunlap said.

Dunlap adds that shooting bin Laden's fallen form was also reasonable in his legal opinion, to keep the terrorist from possibly blowing himself up or getting a weapon and shooting at the SEALs.

In another possibly uncomfortable revelation for U.S. officials who say bin Laden's body was treated with dignity before being given a full Muslim burial at sea, the author reveals that in the cramped helicopter flight out of the compound, one of the SEALs was sitting on bin Laden's chest as the body lay at the author's feet in the middle of the cabin, for the short flight to a refueling stop inside Pakistan where a third helicopter was waiting.

This is common practice, as U.S. troops sometimes must sit on their own war dead in packed helicopters. Space was cramped because one of the helicopters had crashed in the initial assault, leaving little space for the roughly two dozen commandos in the two aircraft that remained. When the commandos reached the third aircraft, bin Laden's body was moved to it.

Bissonnette writes that none of the SEALs were fans of President Barack Obama and knew that his administration would take credit for ordering the raid. One of the SEALs said after the mission that they had just gotten Obama re-elected by carrying out the raid.

But he says they respected him as commander in chief and for giving the operation the go-ahead.

Bissonnette writes less flatteringly of meeting Vice President Joe Biden along with Obama at the headquarters of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment after the raid. He says Biden told "lame jokes" no one understood, reminding him of "someone's drunken uncle at Christmas dinner."

Beyond such embarrassing observations, U.S. officials fear the book may include classified information, as it did not undergo the formal review required by the Pentagon for works published by former or current Defense Department employees.

Officials from the Pentagon and the CIA, which commanded the mission, are examining the manuscript for possible disclosure of classified information and could take legal action against the author.

In a statement provided to the AP, the author says he did "not disclose confidential or sensitive information that would compromise national security in any way."

Bissonnette's real name was first revealed by Fox News and confirmed to the AP.

Jihadists on al-Qaida websites have posted purported photos of the author, calling for his murder.

(AP) ? North Korea, long accused by rights activists of shunting its disabled residents off to isolated detention camps, will take part for the first time this year in the Paralympics, which open Wednesday in London.

The country's sole competitor is a 16-year-old swimmer whose training only began in April. Yet his participation offers inspiration to others involved in North Korea's nascent disabled sports programs, said Li Pun Hui, a former table tennis star who has become her country's leading advocate for disabled athletes.

"Healthy or disabled, if you have the will to succeed, there is no obstacle in your way," Li said.

Earlier this year, Li's work helped gain North Korea provisional membership in the International Paralympic Committee. But the clearance to participate came too late to qualify for most events.

The exception was swimming. Rim Ju Song, who actually lives in Beijing and lost an arm and leg in a construction accident, became his country's only hope. The problem: He couldn't really swim.

The first training session was a disaster. He sank "like a rock," recalled Kim Sung Chol of the North Korean Paralympic Committee. Nevertheless, he soon learned the crawl stroke and in May, Rim and his coaches boarded a plane for Berlin and his first international competition.

Only upon arrival did the North Koreans learn that Rim would need a second stroke to compete. He spent the next two weeks learning the breaststroke. Rim finished last in one event and was disqualified in the other, but that was good enough for a wild card slot in the Paralympics, where on Sept. 4 he'll compete in the 50-meter freestyle.

Gripping the North Korean flag, he smiled Monday as his nation was introduced at a Paralympics welcoming ceremony in London.

His performance will be watched closely back in North Korea, where sports play a major role in life. From the streets of the capital to the dusty fields of the countryside, kids are constantly kicking around soccer balls, and there's a basketball hoop in nearly every schoolyard. From an early age, promising athletes are plucked for rigorous training, and those who win medals at international tournaments are welcomed home as heroes.

One of those heroes was Li, who became her country's darling after teaming up with a South Korean player in 1991 to beat the seemingly indomitable Chinese and win the team gold at the World Table Tennis Championships. It was the first time players from the enemy Koreas competed together.

After her career ended and her now-15-year-old son was born with cerebral palsy, Li dedicated her life to bringing the disabled out of the shadows and onto the playing fields. In 2010, she organized a table tennis tournament that was covered by state media ? the first time many North Koreans saw the disabled on TV.

"Caring for my son, I've felt that people with disabilities often feel despair," she told The Associated Press in an interview in Pyongyang. "They feel uncomfortable around other people, ashamed of their disabilities, and purposeless."

This may be especially true in North Korea. The country has some 1.8 million disabled people, about 7.5 percent of the population, according to the Green Tree Charity Foundation in South Korea, which bases its estimate on figures provided by the North Korean government.

Defectors have reported in the past that the disabled were housed at group homes and kept out of the showcase capital of Pyongyang and other major cities, according to the South Korean government and the U.N. special rapporteur for human rights.

In 2003, the country passed a law promising free medical care and special education, and in 2009 Pyongyang assured the United Nations its disabled were receiving proper care and schooling.

But Kim Kyung Hwa, manager of the Green Tree foundation's planning team, says the country can barely feed its people, much less provide special care for the disabled. Green Tree sends food and supplies to North Korea's disabled, as well as sports equipment to Li and her group of disabled athletes.

The foundation and a slate of other donors have helped provide the pingpong tables, barbells and other equipment that fill a Pyongyang recreation center that serves as a training facility for disabled athletes.

When AP journalists visited the Taeddonggang Cultural Center for the Disabled in June, a girl in a wheelchair was thwacking a pingpong ball fired at her by a coach while a boy fiddled with his prosthetic leg while awaiting his turn.

The young woman, Ma Yu Chol, isn't competing at the Paralympics but she is in London to cheer Rim on. Li said she sees her country's trip to the Paralympics as a "first step" toward developing a disabled sports culture in North Korea.

"People can communicate through sports," she said, "and learn to feel comfortable around one another through sports."

Personal computer makers like HP, Dell in desperate need of reboot ...

SAN FRANCISCO ? Hewlett-Packard Co. used to be known as a place where innovative thinkers flocked to work on great ideas that opened new frontiers in technology. These days, HP is looking behind the times.

Coming off a five-year stretch of miscalculations, HP is in such desperate need of a reboot that many investors have written off its chances of a comeback.

Consider this: Since Apple Inc. shifted the direction of computing with the release of the iPhone in June 2007, HP?s market value has plunged by 60 percent to $35 billion. During that time, HP has spent more than $40 billion on dozens of acquisitions that have largely turned out to be duds so far.

?Just think of all the value that they have destroyed,? ISI analyst Brian Marshall said. ?It has been a case of just horrible management.?

Marshall traces the bungling to the reign of Carly Fiorina, who pushed through an acquisition of Compaq Computer a decade ago despite staunch resistance from many shareholders, including the heirs of HP?s co-founders. After HP ousted Fiorina in 2005, other questionable deals and investments were made by two subsequent CEOS, Mark Hurd and Leo Apotheker.

HP hired Meg Whitman 11 months ago in the latest effort to salvage what remains of one of the most hallowed names in Silicon Valley 73 years after its start in a Palo Alto, Calif., garage.

The latest reminder of HP?s ineptitude came last week when the company reported an $8.9 billion quarterly loss, the largest in the company?s history. Most of the loss stemmed from an accounting charge taken to acknowledge that HP paid far too much when it bought technology consultant Electronic Data Systems for $13 billion in 2008.

HP might have been unchallenged for the ignominious title as technology?s most troubled company if not for one its biggest rivals, Dell Inc.

Like HP, Dell missed the trends that have turned selling PCs into one of technology?s least profitable and slowest growing niches. As a result, Dell?s market value has also plummeted by 60 percent, to about $20 billion, since the iPhone?s release.

That means the combined market value of HP and Dell ? the two largest PC makers in the U.S. ? is less than the $63 billion in revenue Apple got from iPhones and various accessories during just the past nine months.

The handheld, touch-based computing revolution unleashed by the iPhone and Apple?s 2010 introduction of the iPad isn?t the only challenge facing HP and Dell.

They are also scrambling to catch up in two other rapidly growing fields ? ?cloud computing? and ?Big Data.?

Cloud computing refers to the practice of distributing software applications over high-speed Internet connections from remote data centers so that customers can used them on any device with online access. Big Data is a broad term for hardware storage and other services that help navigate the sea of information flowing in from the increasing amount of work, play, shopping and social interaction happening online.

Both HP and Dell want a piece of the action because cloud computing and Big Data boast higher margins and growth opportunities than the PC business.

It?s not an impossible transition, as demonstrated by the once-slumping but now-thriving IBM Corp., a technology icon even older than HP. But IBM began its makeover during the 1990s under Louis Gerstner and went through its share of turmoil before selling its PC business to Lenovo Group in 2005. HP and Dell are now trying to emulate IBM, but they may be making their moves too late as they try to compete with IBM and Oracle Corp., as well as a crop of younger companies that focus exclusively on cloud computing or Big Data.

A revival at HP will take time, something that HP CEO Meg Whitman has repeatedly stressed during her first 11 months on the job.

?Make no mistake about it: We are still in the early stages of a turnaround,? Whitman told analysts during a conference call last week.

The problems Whitman is trying to fix were inherited from Apotheker and Hurd.

HP hired Apotheker after he was dumped by his previous employer. He lasted less than a year as HP?s CEO ? just long enough to engineer an $11 billion acquisition of business software maker Autonomy, another poorly performing deal that is threatening to lump HP with another huge charge.

Before Apotheker, Hurd won praise for cutting costs during his five-year reign at HP, but Marshall believes HP was too slow to respond to the mobile computing, cloud computing and Big Data craze that began to unfold under Hurd?s watch. HP also started its costly shopping spree while Hurd was CEO.

How much further will HP and Dell fall before they hit bottom?

HP?s revenue has declined in each of the past four quarters, compared with the same period a year earlier, and analysts expect the trend to extend into next year. The most pessimistic scenarios envision HP?s annual revenue falling from about $120 billion this year to $90 billion toward the end of this decade.

The latest projections for PC sales also paint a grim picture. The research firm IDC now predicts PC shipments this year will increase by less than 1 percent, down from its earlier forecast of 5 percent.

Whitman is determined to offset the crumbling revenue by trimming expenses. She already is trying to lower annual costs by $3.5 billion during the next two years, mostly by eliminating 27,000 jobs, or 8 percent of HP?s work force.

Marshall expects Whitman?s austerity campaign to enable HP to maintain its annual earnings at about $4 per share, excluding accounting charges, for the foreseeable future.

If HP can do that, Marshall believes the stock will turn out to be a bargain investment at last week?s closing price of $17.58, even though he isn?t expecting the business to grow during the next few years.

One of the main reasons that Marshall still likes HP?s stock at these levels is because of the company?s quarterly dividend of 13.2 cents per share. That translates into a dividend yield of about 3 percent, an attractive return during these times of puny interest rates.

Dell?s stock looks less attractive, partly because its earnings appear to still be dropping. The company, which is based in Round Rock, Texas, signaled its weakness last week, when it lowered its earnings projection for the current fiscal year by 20 percent.

Dell executives also indicated that the company is unlikely to get a sales lift from the Oct. 26 release of Microsoft Corp.?s much-anticipated makeover of its Windows operating system. That?s because Dell focuses on selling PCs to companies, which typically take a long time before they decide to switch from one version of Windows to the next generation.

As PC sales languish, both HP and Dell are likely to spend more on cloud computing, data storage and technology consulting.

Although those look like prudent bets now, HP and Dell probably should be spending more money trying to develop products and services that turn into ?the next new thing? in three or four years, said Erik Gordon, a University of Michigan law and business professor who has been tracking the troubles of both companies.

?It?s like they are both standing on the dock watching boats that have already sailed,? Gordon said. ?They are going to have to swim very fast just to have chance to climb back on one of the boats.?

Stranger Anxiety | How To Get Rid Of Anxiety

By : Max Lumintang

Have you ever heard about the stranger anxiety? This anxiety usually happens to the children including the babies and also the toddlers when they are seeing people whom they do not know well. This anxiety symptom is known as the common psychologist in the normal stage of the children development and most all the children are having this anxiety. Stranger anxiety depends on how much your toddlers contact with stranger and how is the variety of people they have met.

Few? people know that stranger anxiety does exist. As mentioned above, it usually happens to babies or toddlers. It?s basically the fear to meet new and unfamiliar people. When babies or toddler meet new people ? other than the caregivers and families ? the usually feel not as ease, because the people aren?t familiar to them. This type of anxiety can happen when the babies are 3 months old to 10 months old. The awkwardness can happen for as long as 6 months where they will feel timid or maybe cry when meeting new people. It?s a normal reaction, so people ? or parents ? don?t need to worry about it.

Stranger Anxiety: How to Deal with It

The first signs of the stranger anxiety will include:

  • Constant staring
  • Hiding or clinging
  • Awkwardness
  • The unwillingness to talk or interact

Don?t scare the babies or toddler by pushing them to be close to the new people. Let everything happen naturally. Don?t aggressively approach the babies or force them to interact. It won?t help; in fact, it will make their fear get worse.

If people want to treat this anxiety, they can:

  • Put some distance with the kids so the kids won?t feel threatened.
  • Speak softly and slowly. Don?t yell or use loud voice. It may scare them.
  • If adults want to give treats or toys, do it slowly. Don?t rush.
  • Give it time and be patient

Usually this kind of anxiety happens in the early of 3 months and at the late of 8 months and children mostly will have this stranger anxiety for about 6 months. This stranger anxiety is the part of children development, and this becomes the routine of their daily life. Children in this age need to learn how to close with the family member and need to learn in how to provide the security so that they can prevent their fearful. Usually, the babies who are experiencing this anxiety will be very upset and will cry. So when your babies are experiencing this phobia, you should be calm and reassuring them. Do not be upset as it will only make your babies upset and cry more loudly. Furthermore,? you should go to my post about how to get rid of anxiety.

Stranger Anxiety in Kids

In kids, this type of anxiety isn?t considered as phobia. However, when it happens to adults, it?s called as social anxiety. To know what is your level on this phobia, you can use? social anxiety test. The severity depends on their condition. Some people may still want to meet new people or people that they don?t really know about although they may be awkward, and everything seems too formal. But some people may avoid meeting new people at all. This type of stranger anxiety can lead to Personality Avoidant Disorder.

Discount Flooring ? Save Money On Home Improvement ?

Bamboo is a renewable and sustainable resource. Unlike many of the hardwood flooring materials which can take 80-100 years to reforest, bamboo plants reach their maturity in just 5-7 years. So, whenever the bamboo plants are harvested, they are quickly replaced by the new plants because bamboo roots remain intact in the soil and continue to produce new shoots even after the plants are harvested.

The concept of laminate floors was invented by manufacturer Pergo. They were so successful that the flooring is also known as ?Pergo flooring?. Pergo flooring was used in Europe for many years before being brought to the United States. After it was imported, affordable laminate flooring became an instant hit due to its many qualities.

It?s really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of premium flooring. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

The great thing about laminate flooring is that you can purchase boards that look like many different types of traditional wood flooring, not just hardwood flooring. For instance, laminate flooring in the style of bamboo flooring is a very popular choice. Bamboo flooring is quite beautiful, which is why its laminate counterpart is enjoying a resurgence. Cork flooring is another type of laminate that?s growing in popularity. Cork flooring matches a wide variety of styles and decors, so consider this type of laminate if your home is very eclectic.

discount flooring ? When you are purchasing flooring materials, you don?t have to purchase the most expensive materials to get impressive results. In today?s competitive market, high-quality hardwood flooring can be purchased at great prices. It just requires diligence to find the best values when you are making your selection.

In some cases the discount prices of laminate and hardwood flooring could be 80% of the regular price. Some people have the idea that the term discount laminate flooring or discount hardwood means a poorer quality flooring, but this is not the case. If you go shopping for laminate flooring because it is cheaper than hardwood, you might just come away with new hardwood flooring for your home because of the discount price.

The main drawback in buying overstock flooring material is that you may not find the exact style that you are looking for. This is probably not the best way to go if you?re looking at a main living room. However if you are looking to redo a spare bedroom or playroom, yet would like some high-quality product at a price that may even be better than lower to medium grade material this is a great way to go.

Laminate flooring comes in pieces that are fitted together in a tongue and groove method. For homeowners in San Diego, flooring can be a big investment.

YouTube: One of The Latest Marketing Tools In Businesses ...

YouTube has enabled Internet users to watch videos, TV shows, and movies anytime they want to. It has connected people around the world, launched careers of aspiring musicians or singers and witness current events around the world. Significantly, it also has created a new avenue for businesses to market their products or services wherein it reaches new target audience?the online users around the world.

It allowed companies to use a medium that cost less than the usual expenses of putting an advertisement conventionally on TV, newspapers or billboards. There are numerous advantages of online marketing enabling businesses to buy YouTube views that can increase their revenues.

?Benefits of using YouTube as marketing tool

  • YouTube is a great marketing tool since it is free. Conventional methods of promoting a business usually cost a lot of money. Producing TV commercials, printing advertisements on the newspaper or magazine can be meticulous apart from being expensive.
  • Sometimes explaining verbally or reading the descriptions of the product or services of a business is not enough to convince the customer from purchasing them.? Using YouTube is an advantage here since people are visual creatures.? Videos and graphics will definitely do the trick in capturing their attention for a long time compared to the conventional type of presentation.
  • YouTube videos can become viral. If it catches the attention of Internet users, it can be posted also to other social networking sites such as Facebook or linked to Twitter making it popular or trending online.
  • To avoid having a boring presentation, create 3-minute videos explaining the product or services instead. There are people who are looking for shorter videos that can tell them a lot of info instead of watching someone drone on and on a product for a long time. Not everyone can spare a lot of time watching a video that lasts up to 20 minutes or so.
  • Video presentations can be uploaded easily since most formats of files are accepted by the website. Be creative in editing or creating the video for YouTube to entice Internet users to watch them. In a matter of a couple of minutes, the video is uploaded without a hassle as long as there is fast Internet connection.
  • Almost everyone uses the Internet these days so by simply searching the website for keywords related to the service or product the company offers it is easy to have people find the business online. Thus more chances to buy YouTube views.
  • Since lately the trend in employment is working at home and merely sending files or transacting with co-employees via e-mails or Skype, there are even more people who can view YouTube and view the product or services the business has to offer.
  • Another way to have a good video on YouTube is by converting a podcast into a video.
  • It is a good medium to receive testimonials from people around the world. A company can improve their product or services. Also it is faster to answer any inquiries of a customer by simply answering on YouTube or directing them to a company website with a FAQ page. Better yet, it can direct them to contacting the company via e-mail or providing a telephone number where customers can call.
  • YouTube has a feature that allows users to edit their videos online. This is good for quick and simple videos for those who don?t have much time or wants quick updates on their account.
  • ?How to? videos are also a good idea since sometimes people search the Internet for these type of info. Visual demonstration or explanation is easier to understand compared to ones that are written.

Engage people in watching the product or services on YouTube by making videos that are friendly and casual rather than making it sound too business-like. People prefer this over stiff corporate sounding presentations.?? Making it funny or witty videos will help in creating more people to watch them. It is a new way of marketing a business whether big or small. It has so many advantages that make it a perfect way to promote a product or services.

These measures aim to enhance operational and development capabilities of Sony Mobile such as time to market efficiency, streamline supply chain management and drive greater integration with the wider Sony group. ?

"Sony has identified the mobile business as one of its core businesses and the Xperia? smartphone portfolio continues to gain momentum with customers and consumers worldwide," said Kunimasa Suzuki, President and CEO of Sony Mobile. ?"We are accelerating the integration and convergence with the wider Sony group to continue enhancing our offerings, and a more focused and efficient operational structure will help to reduce Sony Mobile's costs, enhance time to market efficiency and bring the business back to a place of strength."

In relation to the operational structure changes, Sony Mobile plans to reduce its global headcount by approximately 15 percent (approximately 1000 personnel, including consultants) throughout the financial years of 2012 and 2013 (i.e. by the end of March 2014) as the company seeks to increase operational efficiency, reduce costs and drive profitable growth.

Today Sony Mobile filed a redundancy notification ("varsel") with the Swedish authorities to notify them that the company expects around 650 employees across a number of functions at Sony Mobile in Lund to be affected by job closures. ?The remaining headcount reductions will be primarily consultants in Sweden. Lund will continue to be an important strategic site for Sony Mobile, with the main focus on software and application development.

UN: Syrian refugees top 200,000 as exodus grows

By NBC News staff and wire reports

More than 200,000 Syrians have poured into neighboring countries during the conflict, already surpassing the projection of 185,000 set out by the U.N. refugee agency for the end of this year.

Meanwhile, more than 3,500 people fleeing violence in Syria entered Turkey over the past 24 hours, Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate said Friday, one of the highest daily refugee flows since the start of the uprising last year.

The total of fleeing Syrians reflects an increase of some 30,000 in the past week alone to Turkey, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan, but also takes into account a change in the way the agency counts those in Jordan, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said.

"We are now at a much higher level of 202,512 refugees in the surrounding region," Adrian Edwards told a news briefing in a briefing.

As fighting continues in Syria, observers blame government airstrikes for mounting casualties which activists now say top 20,000. NBC News' John Ray reports.

"In Jordan, a record 2,200 people crossed the border overnight and were received at Za'atri camp in the north," he said.

Edwards, referring to Lebanon where 51,000 Syrian refugees are now registered, said: "The deteriorating security situation in Lebanon is hampering our work to help refugees fleeing Syria's conflict, though operations are continuing."?

Town hammered
The news came after reports that troops and tanks swept into a town near capital Damascus in an assault aimed at crushing opposition to President Bashar Assad in Syria's increasingly bloody civil war.?

Artillery and helicopters hammered the Sunni Muslim town of Daraya on Thursday, killing 25 people and wounding 200 over the previous 48 hours, opposition sources told Reuters. Soldiers moved in and raided houses.?

As civil war rages on in Syria, there is growing concern over violence that is spreading to neighboring countries. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

"Artillery is firing from Qasioun Mountain in regular bursts of heavy barrages. I wonder what is left of the town," said one woman watching the shelling from Damascus.?

At least 100 people, including 59 civilians, died in violence across the country, according to the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Some 200 were killed on Wednesday.?

Report: More foreign fighters join rebels in Syria

An estimated 20,000 people have been killed in 18 months of unrest in Syria.?

There was little resistance as Assad's forces pushed toward the center of Daraya on the southwest edge of Damascus. Armed rebels had apparently already left.?

At least nine people die as Sunni Muslims and Alawites fight for a second day. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

"They are using mortar bombs to clear each sector. Then they enter it, while moving towards the center," said Abu Zeid, an activist speaking by phone from near Daraya.?

Assad's military had driven insurgents from most of the areas they seized in and around the capital after a bomb killed four top security officials on July 18. But rebels have crept back, regrouping without taking on the army in pitched battles.?

Tanks and troops attacked the southwest Damascus suburb of Mouadamiya on Monday and Tuesday, killing 86 people, half of them in cold blood, according to Assad's opponents.?

The battle for Aleppo: My 18 days with the Syrian rebels

It is hard to verify such assertions due to state curbs on independent media. Syrian leaders say they are fighting "armed terrorists" backed by Western and Gulf Arab nations out to topple Assad for his resistance to Israel and the United States.?
